Andrews Sisters #1 Recorded 1937 - 1941 CD168A

LaVerne(b.1915) Maxene(b.1917) and Patti (b.1920) were all born in Minneapolis,MN. After winning a talent contest while still in their teens,they made their debut in New York, singing with Leon Belasco's Orchestra at the Hotel Edison. They recorded four sides with his orchestra for Brunswick Records in March of 1937. Jack Kapp, director of Decca records, heard them and contracted them to record for Decca and the rest is history - they stayed with Decca until they broke up in 1953. They reunited in 1956, and recorded on the Capitol label, joining Patty who was recording solo at the time. A dozen singles followed through the fifties, evolving with some rock and roll arrangements. Three hi-fi albums followed, and in 1962 they signed with Dot Records until 1964. LaVerne died in 1967 and the group continued ,replacing her with Joyce DeYoung Vic Schoen provided backup for the bulk of their records. Vic Schoen recorded another version of 'Hit The Road' with Don Raye vocal, as well as three other titles as a solo band - the rest of his output was accompanying various vocalists for the Decca label.Tracks 7 and 8 are with Jimmy Dorsey's Orchestra, 11 and 12 with Joe Venuti.
