When visiting San Diego many years ago I looked for record labels that are uncommon in Canada - the ARC-Brunswick family particularly. I like the less commercial recordings that were coming from studio musicians in groups such as 'Chick Bullock and His Levee Loungers. The general theme of this compilation is a visit to records I acquired from that trip; a little jazzy,a little romantic.Freddy Martin played with such bands as did many really good session men - Dick Macdonough,Bunny Berigan,Sterling Bose,Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey,Stan King, and many more. The Ray Noble sides here were of his American group with arrangements by Glenn Miller; more laid back than his New Mayfair Dance Orchestra sounded.The Jack Shilkret disc was unusual in that it was pressed on the Royal Blue material more usual on Columbia pressings of the day. Herbert Gordon's Adelphia Hotel Orchestra has a rhythmic yet soft sound as the instrumentation was focussed on strings. Harold 'Scrappy' Lambert contributeds the vocals.
