Why Was I Born? #2 CD107B
The general theme of ARC-Brunswick studio bands continues on this album, starting with an Okeh of Frankie Trumbauer's band from 1927 with tasty cornet by Bix Beiderbecke. 'Smoke Rings' and 'Sophisticated Lady' were issued on the Oriole label - I wish I had more space to show these beautiful label designs. An early ballad by Bing Crosby from 1929 - issued on columbia in 1929. It's one of my favourites by him. This version of Stardust was one of the first recordings of this monumental success by Hoagy Carmichael, and I believe to be the first slow tempo rendition - enjoy!! The Eubie Blake side was a restoration challenge as this exceptionaly rare record was broken in a number of places. This is one of those once-in-a lifetime copies - and I chose to repair and restore it to the best of my ability, and include in this compilation to preserve it. Archie Bleyer was musical director for Arthur Godfrey's radio and TV shows, and founded Cadence Records.by Vaughn De Leath sings on a rare American Crown from 1931 - one of her last popular recordings. She would go on to record some childrens records in the early forties.
