The older members of the Revelers were influenced by Baur. Charles Hart - an early alumnus from the days of the Shannon Quartette - (the predecessor of the Revelers) wrote in the December 1958 issue of Hobbies, "Baur was instrumental in getting the boys to do jazz numbers and the name was changed in 1925 to the Revelers." Pseudonyms for Baur include Irving Post (Puritan), George Bronson (Regal and Banner), Sydney or Sidney Mitchell (Oriole and Banner), Joseph Elliott (National Music Lovers), and Ben Litchfield (Radiex, Grey Gull, and related labels--he was sometimes Charles Dale on these labels, a name used for various singers). You will find much more Franklyn Baur on 161 (four volumes of the Revelers, including sides by the Shannon Quartet) and Brunswick Medleys where the quartet recorded as the Merrymakers - 319 in my catalog. 'With A Song In My Heart' was Franklyn Baur's swan song. He had aspired to turn to serios classical music - like his compatriot from the Revelers, James Melton. Unfortunately, his efforts were not met with resounding enthusiasm . Following his dismissal by Firestone, Baur's career was in decline. In 1931, he went to France to take voice lessons, and he gave a recital in 1933. After that he retired and lived with his sister in the house of his birth to pass away at the young age of 46 in 1950, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful music. ~ Mickey Clark
