Ray Noble had recorded the 12" medley in London before returning to the U.S.A. His personnel had changed again - twice. His earlier Brunswicks starting January of 1938 had a new lineup until late 1938. I have not included any Brunswick sides because fire destroyed all my Brunswick records some years ago. I will be sourcing these records in the future to round out the picture of that period on Ray Noble's band. Starting in January 1939, Don Anderson-Bob Goodrich-Harry Johnson-t/ Earle Hagen-Carl Loffler-tb/ Jack Chaney-cl-as/ Don Bonee-cl-as-v/ Jack dumont-Bud SmithJacques Marx-ts/ frank Leithner-p/ George Van Eps-g/ Manny Stein-sb/ Bill Harty-d/ Ray Hendricks-Larry Stewart-Buddy Clark-Roy 'Snooky' Lanson-Al Hendrickson-Frances Hunt-v . Ray's Brunswicks and Columbias were recorded in L.A., New York, Hollywood and Chicago studios. It is unclear who was arranging during this period - most likely Ray Noble himself. Around 1939, the Modernaires were with the band previous to their affiliation with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. On disc #8 of this set, they used the pseudonym on the 'Freshmen' - most likely because a contract agreement they had made with their current band - possibly Fred Waring's outfit-they are known to be with Waring about 1936, but Waring was I believe not recording at that time, focussing insead on radio broadcasts. Most likely they were included on radio transcriptions. I am attempting to source some of their pre-Miller recordings. As for Ray Noble, he was active later in his carreer as a straight man for Charlie McCarthy and Edgar Bergen and was the orchestra for the Chase and Sanborne Hour radio show.
