Donald Charles Frederick (Don) Messer was born in Tweedside, New Brunswick in 1909. He began playing the violin at age five and played concerts locally. By 1929 began on radio with CFBO in Saint John, New Brunswick .By 1934 he had assembled a band, and was soon playing regularly on CBC Radio, broadcasting from CHSJ in Saint John as the 'New Brunswick Lumberjacks.' Television appearances started in 1956 and 'Don Messer 's Jubilee became one of the most popular shows throughout the sixties. Messer was inducted posthumously into the Canadian Country Music Association Hall of Honour in 1985 and the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 1989. Charlie Chamberlain was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick in 1911 and sang many years alongside Marg Osborne. Two honest, down-to-earth people that were never pretentious and could sing a hymn as easily as an Irish song.
George Wade was born in Manitoba,Canada in 1895 and was playing dances with his 'Corn Huskers" by the late twenties. Band members included Bill, Francis, and Laury Cormier-vn/ Jean Carignan - cl-sx/'Doc Boyd-bj/Tony Mont-g/Cecil McEachern-bb Johnny Burt - p/, Bill Martin, Ted Steven, and Johnny Bentley. They were popular on radio throughout the thirties into the forties, and recorded a number of records in 1933.
Tommy Duchesne, born in Val-Jalbert on Lac-Saint-Jean in 1909, learned to play the violin and the accordion as a young boy.Moving to Montréal in 1930, he played the Théâtre National as a musician/actor. Forming Les Chevaliers De Folklore in 1935, with Albert Allard-vn and Tony Ouellette-g. Was performing on radio through to the late fifties. Joseph Allard, born in 1873 was taught by his father,also a fiddler. A pseudonym he would use was Maxime Toupin. It is said that he was the first Quebecois fiddler to record. Leon Robert Goulet recorded in the early thirties and was related to Robert Goulet the singer. J.O.LaMadeleine, born in 1905, was living in Montreal by the late twenties and was regular radio performer.
