Born John Joseph Miller on September 4, 1895 Comments Singer, pianist, and band leader from Boston, Massachusetts. He began
his recording career in 1928 as a vocalist. By 1931, as a singing pianist, he had his own show on the Columbia radio network.
Earlier in 1931 he became the accompanist for Kate Smith, a relationship that continued for a quarter century. He was also musical
director for several other radio network programs and was a music publisher. He retired from the music industry in the late
1950s.
