Paul Whiteman #16 Recorded 1928 - 1942 020pmp3

This album includes only electrical recordings from 1928 - 1942. Paul Whiteman was with Columbia only for about two years - and was quite prolificly recording during that time. The first eight titles were all Columbia issues - with 'Vocal refrains' by Bing Crosby,the Rhythm Boys (Bing-Al Rinker-Harry Barris), Austin Young and Jack Fulton. By the end of September, 1930, the band was back with Victor - which seems to have better sound than Columbia at that time. Mildred Bailey started with him, as well as Peggy Healy and Ramona Davies. Ramona also recorded with a small unidentified combo in 1933. A vocal group called the Vocordians seem to have only recorded only one title - 'My Little Grass Shack'. Vocally, they sound a little more like Eddie Bush and the Biltmore Trio but Ihave not been able to identify the singers. The Four Modernaires recorded during Paul's Decca period in the late thirties through to about 1940, when they left to join Glenn Miller's band. Paul Whiteman At The Biltmore includes a faster version of 'When Day Is Done,' which I feel was better in his 1927 version - the sliding string bass was quite remarkable at that time. Paul had a brief stay with Capitol in 1942,recording final two titleson this album. all tracks were transferred with a special digital hi-definition process for smoother, fuller sound. ~ Mickey Clark
